Glenn Johnson
Glenn Johnson in his fifties now, was injured in a smelting accident near Amarillo in the late 90s. A furnace exploded, crushed him and left major burns over 90% of his body. His left arm was amputated and all but two the muscles in his right forearm were removed.
A body builder before the accident, Johnson has some use of his remaining hand and despite his constant court battles with the insurance company, he continues to weight train. He says working out was one of the only things that kept him going.
While living in west Texas, Johnson claims the insurance company started acting in bad faith from the moment he returned from the hospital if not before. Investigators from the insurance company claimed he was not going to the gym because he had not electronically signed in at the door and was therefore committing insurance fraud.
They began denying coverage, not paying for certain prescriptions and sending investigators out regularly. Johnson says he never stopped going to the gym, but that he didn't swipe in with his electronic pass because the employees would let him in after they got to know him.
One of Johnson's nurses organizes his prescriptions. She says she never knows which medicines will and won't be covered.
Burn and skin graft scars on Glenn Johnson's back. He was injured at work when a smelting furnace filled with molten metal exploded, crushed him and left severe burns over ninety percent of his body. He and his lawyer battled with the insurance company over discrimination allegations and quality of life issues.
